The Code of Conduct Bureau launched its maiden Annual Essay Competition as part of activities for the Labour Day celebrations on May 1, 2008. The Secretary of the Bureau, Mr. Sam Saba used the occasion to announce the topic which is “Work Ethics and the Actualisation of vision 2020, and the following conditions for entry;

-          It is open to all workers

-          Entries should not be more than 1000 typewritten word double spaced, on A4 paper

-          The names, addresses, telephone numbers and e-mail address must be valid for contacts and all entries must reach the Code of Conduct Bureau Headquarters 5th Floor Phase 1, Federal Secretariat, near Eagle Square Abuja by Tuesday May 20, 2008.

It is the expectation of the Bureau that activities such as this will keep the ethical values that enhance quality service delivery to our people very much in the consciousness of workers as they carry out their assignment, tasks and duties on a daily basis.

Additionally, children form a key target group for the Bureau’s activities. This explains why a number of activities are usually lined up for the Annual Children’s Forum.

The theme for this year’s forum, the fourth in the series is: Watering the Seed of Honest in the Leaders of Tomorrow.

The activities will cover Essay Competition, Poetry, Art work, Integrity Parade which is to be presented in songs or drama depending on the contestants’ mode of showcasing either a value or sets of ethical values for children to imbibe.

This years Essay Competition is on the topic: Honesty: The key to Good Leadership and the deadline for all entries is Tuesday May 20, 2008.

It is open to all students of Junior and Senior Secondary Schools and must not be more than 500 words.

This leg of the competition will witness prizes given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions during the children’s Day Celebration on May 27th in all the states of the federation. The dates for the zonal competitions and the Grande final will be published in the course.

Children are encouraged to enter into the competition and not only win the attractive prizes that will be given out, but focus on the essence of the competition.
